It might look like a lot of work but most of it is just cutting the pieces of fruit into bite sized pieces. Then just enlist your kids to help build the fruit kabobs and you have yourself an easy fruit side dish.

I also love that when you place the kabobs on a plate next to each other you have the perfect rainbow and my kids are always in awe of how pretty it is. If you want to have even more fun with it you can add some yellow food coloring to the marshmallow fluff dip and call it the pot of gold.

If you’re not a fan of marshmallow, you can make a cream cheese fruit dip instead. Either one will pair great with your rainbow fruit skewers!

FAQs

How do you display fruit on skewers? ›

Once all the fruit is cut up, you can start assembling the fruit onto skewers following any pattern you like. The grapes and berries can act as cute stoppers in between larger pieces of fruit. You may also choose to place a piece of fresh mint here and there. Leave about 3" empty on the bottom of each skewer.

Can I make fruit skewers the night before? ›

Yes, you can prepare the fruit kabobs up to 24 hours ahead of time! Just make sure to soak the cut apples in salt water to preserve the white color and prevent browning. Drain and rinse after 10 minutes, then store in the refrigerator until it is time to serve.

Do kabobs need to be marinated? ›

A good marinade will not only flavor your kabob, but it will also tenderize the meat and keep it juicy and moist as it cooks. You'll want to make sure your marinade contains oil to coat the ingredients and help the marinade stick to the food's surface.

Why do you put baking soda in kebabs? ›

Here's where it gets science-y: The baking soda raises the pH on the outside of the meat as it marinates, in a process known as velveting (which can also be done with a cornstarch slurry). This makes it so the proteins have a harder time bonding to each other when it's time to cook the meat.

Do you have to soak wooden skewers for kabobs? ›

If they will be exposed to cooking temperatures, yes. If you don't soak them first, they tend to dry out, become brittle and may even burn. I grill often. I'll soak the skewers in water in a shallow pan for 30 minutes or so before I skewer the food.

How do you present fruit on a platter? ›

Keep grapes on the vine for extra height and to ensure they don't roll off the tray. Add slices of oranges, apples, and chunks of pineapple. If you have the room, place a few small piles, separated, on the platter. If you're using a round platter, use the shape of the plate to guide where you add the fruit.
